Traditional Yahrzeit Candle
Yahrzeit means “anniversary” in Yiddish, and it is traditional to light this candle at sundown on the eve of a death’s anniversary according to the Hebrew calendar. Significant dates like 9/11 and 10/7 may also be observed on the secular anniversary. The yahrzeit candle, or Ner Neshama (“Soul Candle”), burns for 24 hours to honor a loved one’s memory.
